Carolyn (Carey) Hardin is a professor, author and consultant with a Ph.D. in Communication and more than 12 years experience teaching and consulting. She has trained executives, entrepreneurs, political candidates, and public officials in effective client communication, public messaging, and conflict management. In addition to her consulting experience, Carey has taught public speaking, rhetoric and data storytelling.

Carey received a B.A. in Mathematics in 2003. In 2015, she completed a Ph.D in communication and a year later accepted a position as assistant professor of media and American studies at Miami University in Ohio. Her research focuses on the culture of Wall Street, consumer culture and race and technology. She has written on the topics of neoliberalism, consumer debt, retirement investing, value, financial technology and arbitrage and her work has appeared in journals including Cultural Studies, Journal of Cultural Economy and American Quarterly. She currently serves as the co-editor in chief of the Journal of Cultural Economy.
