Carey Hardin is assistant professor of media and American studies at Miami University in Ohio. She holds a Ph.D. in communication and cultural studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has worked as a researcher, educator and consultant for more than 12 years. Her research focuses on communication and culture in American finance. Her work has been published in Cultural StudiesAmerican Quarterly and the Journal of Cultural Economy, where she is co-editor in chief. Her book Arbitrage: A Critique of the Political Economy of Finance, is under contract with Duke University Press. 

Carey has trained entrepreneurs, university leaders, political candidates, and business executives in effective public communication, storytelling, effective visual presentations, and communicating across socio-cultural divides. Carey specializes in values-based communication, audience analysis, leadership communication, and alliance building.
